Dick Grayson
Have all four sidekicks ever been in the same place at the same time?
Play-By: Tyler Hoechlin
Don’t call us sidekicks. Not after today.
(Picked a PB who fits, not everyone's first choice, but a reasonable call)
Overwhelm Us With Your Information
You’re overwhelmed, Freeze was underwhelmed-why isn’t anyone ever just whelmed?
Code Name
Nightwing
Character Age
20
Faction
Hero (Will re-join the Team later)
(Filled out the form correctly and paid attention to his birth-date, as a canon, or at the very least what his age should logically be)
Physical Appearance
Dick stands at a tall 6 feet, with a very muscular build. His musculature isn't the most inhibiting to his high levels of flexibility, however, with much of his stature being more tonal than bulk. This body easily allows Grayson to perform effectively in both combat and acrobatic situations, though these often overlap for the young man, as his fighting style makes considerable use of his agility and acrobatic skill. Grayson wears his black hair rather short, rarely allowing it to grow long enough to reach the middle of his forehead, keeping it styled up, and out of face. Richard is considered quite handsome by many, with strong features, fairly pale skin, chocolate brown eyes, and an ever-present beard of short whiskers. Previously Nightwing kept himself rather clean-cut, but since his departure from the team, has taken less time to tend to that component of his appearance.
As a civilian, Richard usually dresses with some manner of anonymity, to keep the press and such off of the young man. Usually wearing a pair of sunglasses and quite a bit of blue, especially liking to wear it in his business suit as a young professional. Around the team, Dick likes wearing leather jackets and jeans, still preferring to keep on his "shades" at all times.
When dressed in his Nightwing uniform, Grayson wears a black suit of both soft and hard kevlar. A full suit of black, with a blue insignia resembling a bird on the horizon, extending from between his pectorals to each shoulder, which have been made into thick pads of this color. On key points throughout his body, Nightwing's suit is also protected by plates of the same kevlar, specifically his joints, to maximize his protection and mobility. In order to keep his face hidden, Dick adheres a high-tech domino mask affixed on his eyes with spirit gum. Perched on his back are two holsters which house his escrima sticks.
(Multiple paragraphs, sufficient detail, not more than 5 large ones)
Personality
Dick is fairly laid-back young man, who often is perceived as not taking things as seriously as necessary. Frequently baffling others through this, many view him as immature in result, and immediately become skeptical to his ability to not only be a leader, but a hero at all. As a hero, Nightwing isn't the most vocal, preferring to work extensively with others so that he can have a shorthand for many different situations. Thus, if others expect Grayson to be relaying orders he would prefer them to expect it to be from some kind of command center situation.
Often liking to engage in banter, Dick would make it a point to make frequent jokes, and word play had often been something of a hobby. While he is still known to do this from time to time, Dick has become something more like Batman, willing to put everything into the crusade for heroism, and much more willing to give it all up. Even though Nightwing is willing to as far as needed, he doesn't expect others to make the ultimate sacrifice as he would, but they certainly gain much more respect in his eyes and will also earn more frequent consideration for missions and such.
In the year following Wally's death, Nightwing decided to engage in heroism as a solo effort, taking to fighting crime in Bludhaven exclusively, with only a few exceptions for particularly threatening incidents. The number of times which Dick has broken his new pattern of behavior could be counted on a single hand, but when he did they certainly made the young man happy. Very few members of the team ever hear from Dick except for on these occasions.
(Clearly has a grasp of the character and displays such rather concisely. Thoughts seem a bit TOO organized and doesn't flow the best, but acceptable)
What's Under Your Mask?
I suppose now you bring me to justice. Let your new friends interrogate me. I wonder if your position's secure enough to survive them learning everything I know.
Powers
None| N/A
SkillsPhysical Conditioning| Dick Grayson has trained himself very near to human perfection for a young man of his age and size. With his physical strength being sufficient to knock down walls with nearly no injury, as well as his running speed which can match that of an Olympic sprinter's.
Gear
Peak Human Agility, Endurance| Both Nightwing's agility and endurance have reached the very peak of what the human race can achieve without any enhancement. Able to not only achieve feats that only few other can achieve in the way of things such as flexibility and acrobatics, as well as continue to exert himself physically for what seems to be all day.
Martial Arts| Grayson has spent over a decade either training with the best fighters the world had to offer, or fighting them himself. Having an extensive knowledge of Earth fighting styles, and how to counter or utilize them, Nightwing's own personal style relies heavily on outmaneuvering and out-planning his foes through heavy use of his agility and acrobatic prowess. Trained for years by Batman in fighting metahumans, so as to compensate for the natural advantage that powers grant to these foes, Nightwing is quite adept at fighting all kinds of stronger, faster, and deadlier foes.
Stealth| A master of making himself disappear, Dick can easily disappear and reappear without the notice of others, as well as prevent being located.
Acrobatics| Able to performs some of the most complex aerial maneuvers known to man, there are only a small few who can recreate the techniques which Dick has perfected over the years. Even with a flu, and as a younger man, a fairly athletic martian with telekinesis could barely keep up with the boy. Dick is currently the only living human able to perform a quadruple somersault without the use of powers.
Escape Artistry| Nightwing can escape all kinds of bindings and traps, always in rather impressive time.
Marksmanship| While not at a level that matches the likes or Red Arrow or Tigress, Nightwing is a notable marksman, able to hit targets with his batarangs nearly every time.
Detective Skills| A very astute detective, Nightwing isn't quite at Batman's level, but is still a quite formidable detective.
Hacker and Computer Technician| Dick can gain access to nearly any computer he wants, through the use of a personally programmed and modified operating system, often in a matter of seconds. Frequently Dick will spend "down time" that's not used on things like training, missions, and patrols, will be spent working on and perfecting new software for the computers division of Wayne Industries. When he was a thirteen year old Nightwing was capable of hacking the Justice League's own files, which were encrypted and protected by a firewall developed by Batman himself.
Strategist| A natural leader, Nightwing can analyze all kinds of battle situations and come up with some kind of strategy to counter the problem at hand. It takes a bit of planning typically, but usually Grayson's plans can pan out fairly easily.
Multilingual| English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.
Genius Level Intellect| Tutored by Batman himself for years, Nightwing is considered extremely intelligent, even becoming more versed in computer sciences than his old mentor.
(Clearly familiar with the character's canon abilities and limitations, as well as checked the wiki for what was canon to YJ)Nightwing Light Variant Patrol Suit| Designed personally, this costume is made of a combination of soft and hard kevlar, capable of withstanding trauma, energy, and bullet-fire. The dark coloration allows for Nightwing to blend into his surroundings. In both gloves are a set of knuckle-weights which add additional force to his punches.
Mask| A domino mask affixed to Nightwing's face with spirit gum, crafted to have a small degree of telescopic vision, as well as several visual filters.
Nightwing Heavy Variant Combat Armor| Commissioned by Batman following the death of Wally, and the decision to go solo, it bears a heavy resemblance to the original, but rather than using two variants of kevlar, uses overlapping plates to protect most of his body, with space between these still being made of the soft kevlar. Instead of a blue insignia, this suit has a red one on the chest. This armor is much more resistant than the original, but is far less mobile than the other.
Escrima Sticks| A twin pair of combat sticks used in close combat. Sometimes, Nightwing will affix electric dischargers to the ends which have a similar affect to a stun gun.
Holographic Computer| Housed in the forearms of his gloves, these each project an interface which relies on motion sensors to receive commands. Able to not only use both scanning and wireless connectivity, Nightwing's computer can also directly connect through USB, TSR Connectors, and a USB port. He also possesses a wrist-watch variant of this computer for use in civilian dress.
Bolas| Two heavy metal orbs attached to each other with a rope that is woven from a durable metal alloy. These are thrown to ensnare an opponent quickly, with them being somewhat difficult to remove.
Batarangs| Originally used by Batman, these blunted shuriken-like weapons are often used as boomerang weapons. While these weapons do not have much of a cutting edge, a strong throw can still lodge them into solid surfaces such as metal or stone walls. Useable at both medium and long range. Several variants exist in explosive, sonic, knock-out gas emitting, fear-gas emitting, and impact batarangs, which are designed to generate more kinetic force when thrown, but cannot be thrown very far. Some of his batarangs can also pick up and play radio signals, as well as relay pre-recorded messages.
Gas Pellets| Small marble-sized devices which dispense a thick smoke when activated. These are typically used to obscure the vision of others, though can also be utilized to knock out enemies in an enclosed space, though he does keep several that dispense Scarecrow's fear-gas. These can also be set to release after a delayed-amount of time.
Grappling Gun| A hand-held launcher which releases a metal hook, designed to catch and latch onto tall buildings and walls. Buttons on the gun's side can either increase the length of the rope's slack beyond what it typically is for extra-long but more straining shots, as well as force the rope itself to go taught early.
Taser| A weapon which can be used at both short and long range, which fire darts into a target and release a sudden flow of electricity through whatever it pierces. At maximum output, it could momentarily cause Superboy to stumble.
Flashbang Grenades| Oval-shaped explosives which cause a massive and resounding bang, accompanied by a blinding flash of light.
Utility Belt| Outfitted with a variety of tools to be used in the field, this includes many field-specific and infiltration pieces of equipment, as well as other things that are made to investigate crime scenes and such.
Rebreather| A small device that can be used to breathe underwater for brief periods of time, through a combination of water filtration and air recycling. This allows for approximately 10 minutes of breathing while actively swimming through a body of water.
(Lengthy, but bat-family gear-lists often are. Adds additional stuff, but it pretty well fits the canon, and at least makes sense)
Your Story
Having broken the Light in half, and stopping the alien invasion, the Team will now operate out of the WatchTower, side-by-side with the Justice League. Not because Mount Justice was destroyed, but because you earned it.
History
Born to a family of circus acrobats, "The Flying Graysons", Dick was raised abroad, seeing much of the world as he quickly became an integral member of the circle of performers by the age of 9. One night, though, a mob boss named Zucco had decided to take revenge on the circus's failure to pay protection money by offing their most lucrative performance at the time. During the execution of the Grayson family's famous "Flight of Death" routine, which was performed with the absence of a net to catch any fallers, the ropes which connected the bars to their perches had been loosened at the bolt.
The resulting falls brought on the deaths of all, excepting one, Graysons who had been performing that night. Dick, who was down with the flu hadn't been permitted by his mother to participate that night, was kept safe but had also managed to witness what Zucco's thugs had done. Taken in by Bruce Wayne, while his uncle Richard who suffered such severe injuries that he was unable to care for his nephew remained under the best care, Dick was trained by the Caped Crusader in the ways of crime fighting. As Robin, the boy managed to learn how to channel his rage into something positive, rather than motivation for revenge as his mentor did as a boy.
In 2010, Robin became a founding member of the team, and was instrumental in defeating The Light's plan to enslave the JLA as their own mindless minions. And following the revelation that Red Arrow was, in fact, a clone of Roy Harper and not the original, Dick assisted his friend for several years in an attempt to locate the original Roy.
During the time between 2011 and 2015, Dick's and Bruce's relationship as student and teacher became quite strained, eventually coming to a head when Robin actually came to a physical confrontation with Batman. In the fallout, Dick was stripped of his mantle as Robin, and instead began going by the identity of Nightwing. As well, during this time, Nightwing was declared the leader of the team in Aqualad's leaving.
Following The Reach's invasion, and Wally's death, Nightwing decided to perform heroics alone and took to becoming Bludhaven's defender almost exclusively.
(Shorter than it CAN be, but there was a lot of history and filler, with little actual development in Invasion, so we can let it slide)
