It was already midday and Maxine Hunkel was already in the cave, dressed in her costume, and she wasn't alone: in her shoulder a tiny brown monkey was sat and looking at everything with curiosity. It was Frankie, Maxine's monkey. He was Maxine's best friend since he started o live with the red haired girl.
Maxine thought that because she would spend more time in the cave than in her home now that she was a member of the Team, it wasn't fair to leave Frankie all alone in home. This would be as Frankie's second home. "Oh Frankie, this is gonna be amazing I heard that Superboy had a wolf as a pet, I think that's pretty awesome and don't worry I don't think that the wolf will eat you or anything like that. I'm sure that all the team will love you and maybe they can give you tons of food and we would have a lot of fun together!"said the red haired girl with squeals totally excited. Yes she was sure that the team would love Frankie, he was cute, nice and very clever.
When she looked at her shoulder, she saw that her monkey wasn't there. When she started to look for him, she finally found him running towards the living room. "Frankie! Bad monkey come back here!"yelled Maxine as she started to pursue him. But the monkey was faster.
Frankie arrived to the living room and leaped in the coach. He looked around and see that nobody was there. He started to examined the big coach and after a few minutes, he determined this would be his new place for naps. He laid down and with an eek he started to close his eyes.

Conner lived between the mountain and the Kent's farm, in Smallville, these days. All of his schooling went on in Rhode Island anyway, so living at the mountain a good portion of his time was convenient, while almost all of his off-time was spent with the family that he inherited from Superman. Currently, he was having one of the short-days from school and got to return home early. Nothing in particular was going on for him in terms of missions, really he was planning to visit Nico in the near future and that was about it.
Entering from the Zeta-Beam projector, the kryptonian entered the main living area for the base. Immediately leaping onto one of the two couches, Conner noticed something fairly out of plce, a monkey laying on the couch. Picking up the small furred thing by the scruff of the neck, Kent glared at the animal and sneered a bit at it. The things reminded him uncomfortably of the G-nomes and other genomorphs from Cadmus that had programmed him. While he should feel a bit more brotherhood with the others, he just couldn't get past their forcibly controlling him telepathically.
He then saw Maxine running into the room, in a manner that told him that she was chasing something, and the young man held up the monkey and asked, "this yours?" With his usually glare towards the young woman, and speaking with an impatient tone of voice. While he didn't really like the girl too much, he couldn't really explain WHY he didn't.

Frankie was calmly trying to sleep till suddenly he felt a hand warping around his neck. The monkey squealed surprised, it wasn't his owner, she was more gentle. When he opened his eyes, the monkey saw the angry face of a black haired guy. Frankie squealed panicked and tried to get away, but the teen hold him with strength. He tried to bit his hand so he could get away of him.
Seconds later both could hear Maxine's voice. "Frankie! Where are you? This is not funny!"said Maxine as she finally arrived to the living room. She saw how Superboy was holding Frankie and her monkey was squealing scared. "Frankie there you are!"said as she walked towards them. She grabbed the monkey and hugged with gentleness. Frankie calm down, but looked at Superboy with a dirty look as he started to think in vengeance.
"I'm sorry Superboy, I brought Frankie cause I thought he would behave but I guess he was really curious like Curious George probably he would wanted a place to take a nap he is a very good monkey and never causes troubles I hope he didn't bothered you too much"started to say the red haired girl apologizing as she talked really fast without taking a small break. Superboy didn't look very pleased by all of this. "Is..something wrong?"asked a little nervous Maxine. She didn't know if the Kryptonian teen had a trouble with her or with Frankie or with both of them. She hoped they could talk about this and fix things.

He wasn't strangling the monkey by any means, the scruff of his neck was far different than the circumference of the body part. But Kent shouldn't have honestly been surprised by the animal's reaction to him picking it up and glaring intently. At being bit, while not actually hurting him, did prompt the clone to set the monkey down so it could get away.
OF COURSE the monkey would belong to Maxine. The girl just SEEMED the type who would own an irritating animal like a monkey, the loud animal squealed with its high-pitched voice and went over to his owner. When it glared towards him, Conner returned the glare, hardly in the mood for a monkey's antics, and likely not one to put up with them when it came time for them to happen.
"No, nothing's wrong, just make sure he doesn't make a mess." The young man said impatiently as she explained why her monkey was there. Conner, of all people, couldn't tell Maxine she couldn't bring animals to the mountain, even small and annoying ones, considering that he owned an obnoxiously large canine named Wolf. Not really one to talk about his problems with strangers, Conner looked like he didn't really want to talk about what was bugging him to Maxine.

Frankie was still angered at Superboy and after exchanging glares with him he simply buffed and ignored him, paying attention to his owner's pets. Maxine was a little puzzled by the behavior of both Superboy and Frankie. "Uh...did Frankie do something to offend you?"asked a little nervous Maxine. By his body expression it looked like...no...it couldn't be. "Do you hate monkeys?"asked with shock Maxine. It was impossible he hated monkeys, nothing said I love you like a monkey.
"Frankie is a good monkey I trained him and he behaves very well, he is not the kind of monkey that would attack nobody unless he feels totally menaced"said Maxine defending Frankie. She still wasn't convinced by his answer. There was something that troubled him, and it was related to Maxine. She sat down in the coach with Frankie on her lap. The monkey was already comfortable, although he gave another look at Superboy. "Superboy? If you really want to talk...well I'm here to listen"offered the red haired teenager with a worried expression. They were friends after all, they could trust each other.

"No," Superboy replied to Maxine's question about Frankie offending him. If anything, the only wrong that the monkey had committed was running around being a monkey, which you couldn't inherently blame him for. Then she followed up with the question, having an incredulous tone as she asked, to which Conner looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What gave me away?" He asked with with a tone of sarcasm in his own voice.
When she then began defending her pet, Conner answered with, "I don't doubt it Hunkel, I just honestly don't like monkeys, never really have been fond of the little things." She then took her seat next to him, and Superboy gave the girl a confused look, then coming up with the request to talk Conner couldn't help but look away. Really, the only person who had ever gone out of their way to be nice to the clone, and that particular social-relationship, and romantic but that was less important, hadn't really ended well. Letting out a drawn-out sigh, Kent then answered, "I don't really WANT to, but I know that I should."
Waiting a few moments, Conner then said to the girl, "honestly, it's the whole M'gann thing, I've met someone else and I kinda feel guilty over it...." While the short statement itself seemed very superficial and typical for a teenager, but to him, it was actually a very complex situation. The boy had only really been involved with the martian, and for pretty much all of his life at that, so "giving up" on the green-ginger was a legitimate concern for him. He wasn't sure how his ex would take it, and whether or not it was actually the right idea.

Maxine was totally shocked when she heard Superboy's answer. He hated monkeys. "But-but-but why? It's impossible to hate monkeys...they are really cute and clever"said shocked. She couldn't believe it. Nothing says love like a monkey, why did he hated them so much? It was impossible. "Well...you can call me Maxine..."said when he he called her by her last name. Maybe that was how he called all the rookies by their last name, it would be a good chance to prove him that she was her friend.
She wasn't sure if he was in the mood of talking, and she wasn't sure if it was wise to insist, but it wasn't good if he didn't keep this inside himself. It was better if he let out things and talk with a friend. She smiled when he agreed and told her his trouble. So then it was about a girl? She had heard that he and Ms. Martian used to date, but they broke up for unknown reasons and she dated Lagoon Boy.
"Uh well...I'm not an expert of relationships, well I never had none boyfriend before...but I think that if you two broke up a long time ago, maybe you could start dating other people...I mean Ms. M dated Lagoon Boy right? I don't think you should feel guilty about it"started to say Maxine. "Does that other girl likes you too?"asked Maxine. That was another important factor.

"Well, looks like I made it possible Maxine." Conner answered frankly. He didn't have any particular hate towards her pet, it was just small apes in general. Small and annoying things generally bugged him on principle, but when those small obnoxious things could also be huge and ferocious it just got to be too much. His calling her Hunkel earlier wasn't any real habit other than a courtesy. He was given in the understanding that when you talked to one you weren't familiar with too personally that the surname was considered polite over the given one.
"Emphasis on dated, I think she expects us to get back together, but I don't know if I want to," he answered to the girl, "besides, if you had dated one person pretty much your whole life you'd realize just how weirdly attached to them you feel too, and L'gann was just her weird way of getting back at me." Then she brought up something that would be considered an imperative, "I think? Maybe? I don't know, she's really fascinating to me though, I've never met anyone like her before."

"Yeah...I guess so..."said Maxine still shocked at this revelation. She still couldn't believe there was somebody in the world that could hate the cute and innocent monkeys. In that moment she made a decision and took a personal bow: she would do her best so Superboy at least hated the monkeys a little less than now. She would probably started another day with her plan, as he wasn't in a good mood, although she had heard that he barely was in good mood.
She got a little confused by Superboy's explanation of his relationship with Ms. Martian and why she dated Lagoon Boy...when you dated somebody was just to keep forward with your personal life and forget your ex-boyfriend? Then why she dated Lagoon Boy so she could come back with her ex-boyfriend? That didn't had too much sense, maybe that's how relationship worked in real life, thought the red haired girl. "I'm sure that girl likes you too a lot, and maybe you could try dating her. I'm sure she is a very nice girl and maybe all of us could be friends and have a lot of fun together eating pizza, talking about costumes, playing videogames"started to say the red haired girl with illusion.
