It was very hot day in L.A. and Karolina was buying a vanilla ice cream. She was dressed with a green top, short trousers, and a pair of red sandals. In her arm she had a bracelet, that Gert gave to her last year, it was one of K's most precious treasures as a great friend gifted it. She brushed a little her hair as she started to walk with ice cream in her hand. She was in a shopping mall not sure of what to do.
It was holidays and things were very boring in her foster home, specially with her new "Parents". Karolina thought that they were addicts to sleeping pills or something like that, as they always behave like if they were zombies. Karolina could organize a party in her foster house for a week and they wouldn't realize it. Luckily that had her advantages: she could turn in her alien form and learn more about her powers during nights, they didn't know she sneaked of home at night to fly a little.
As she sat in a bench she saw a waitress working in a burger store, she was pretty cute. The waitress winked at her when she saw Karolina, and the blond alien looked away blushing a little and focused on her ice cream. She still felt like she wasn't ready to date, specially after everything that happened with her parents and discovering she was an alien. As she looked at the sky and grabbed a handkerchief to clean her forehead of the sweat, she wondered how the others, specially Nico were doing.

Bobby was the typical boy next door, the young handsome gentleman. Every girl he met, he treated with respect, but that didn't mean he didn't do a double take when he saw a beautiful girl. He had just finished a New Mutants mission in L.A., and the X-Men had decided to award the team by letting them spend an extra day in the city to see the sites. After hanging around with some of the others on some Hollywood tour, Bobby decided to take a walk on his own. He found a mall and decided to see what this whole L. A. shopping experience was all about. he then spotted a burger shop inside that was selling fruit-flavored frozen drinks. It was hot, and given Bobby's abilities, on a hot day an ice cold drink was more than welcomed. He walked over, made his order, and then turned... to see one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen in his life. She was gorgeous, like... like a beauty that was almost not earthly. Bobby then realized he was staring at her like a goofball, and that would have sucked if she had caught him. Still, he had to talk to this girl. Taking his drink, he stepped over and politely motioned to the spot beside the girl.
"Hey," he said. "Is this seat taken?" He hoped it wasn't, and that she wasn't expecting some boyfriend who would give him the evil glare of jealousy when he showed up.

Karolina was finishing her ice cream when she saw how a blond boy walking towards her with a friendly smile and drinking a cool drink. He looked very nice and a little nervous, by his clothes, she guessed he wasn't from L.A., he was probably a tourist. He asked if he could sat down. The blond alien smiled him back friendly. "Yes, you can sit down"said Karolina with a nod as he moved a little to give a little more of space to the other guy. Karolina wasn't aware that he had been looking at her before, as she was in her thoughts before.
"I'm Karolina"said with a smile as she extended her free hand, the one with the medic bracelet that nullifies her powers."What's your name?" asked with a smile. "Is this your first visit to L.A.?"asked with a chuckle Karolina as she finished her ice cream. Having a conversation with a new friend would be a good way to spend the afternoon thought Karolina.

Yes, she said he could sit down! Bobby was no longer all that nervous. Once he knew he hadn't freaked out a girl by approaching her, he always calmed down. He sat next to her and smiled. From her attire, he could tell that she was from the area. He kind of felt bad. If she and he really liked each other and hit if off, they would only have the day together. After that, he would only be able to visit her with permission from the school or it they were in town on a mission again.
"Thanks," he said to her letting him sit down. He shook her hand. "My name's Bobby Drake. Karolina is a pretty name." He noticed her medic bracelet and wondered if she was ill with something. He wouldn't have minded if she was outside of feeling bad for her that she might be something from some sickness. Mutations could be a blessing. A sickness was always a curse. Bobby sipped his drink before answering her question about his trip to the city. He guessed that his clothes gave away the fact that he was a tourist.
"Um yes, it's been... well it's been interesting," he said. Aiding in battle against members of the Brotherhood wasn't his idea of a good time. He decided to focus on his time there after the battle. "Well, what I mean is I just now have had a chance to really get to look around the city and all." He then smiled as he looked into Karolina's eyes. "I think it's beautiful so far."

She saw how he sat down and he wasn't more nervous at all. She wondered what worried him before, but he seemed very friendly. She shook hands with him. "Bobby is a nice name too"said Karolina with a smile. She wasn't sure to tell her last name, as she wasn't sure if Bobby heard about the Pride. There were few Deans in L.A. and the most famous were her parents, who were members of the Pride.
She realized that Bobby took a look at her bracelet and she wasn't sure of what to say. He probably believed that she was sick or something like that, he didn't know that it only had the function to let her look more "human". "Don't worry, I'm fine"said with a shy smile after she removed her hand from the shake up.
Karolina listened at Bobby's with interest. It was always good to know the opinion of other people about L.A. usually people consider that L.A. was the city of the snobs. She was glad to hear that he liked it. "That's good to hear Bobby, and well things have been pretty crazy in L.A. but it's good to know that people like the city"said with a smile. "From where are you?"asked Karolina with interest. Talking with Bobby was what Karolina needed, it made her felt more normal, that everything that happened with her parents was just a far dream.

Bobby chuckled a bit when Karolina said she liked his name too. The blush came back as well.
"Well, Bobby's not as pretty as Karolina, but I'm good with it," he said. He was relieved to know that she was not sick. He felt a bit embarrassed that she caught him looking at the bracelet and wondering though. "Um... that's good. Sorry if I looked all weirded out. I didn't mean to."
Bobby was a bit disappointed that Karolina didn't pick up on his subtle comment about her being beautiful. He would have to sneak another one in at some point.
"Well I guess when you've lived in a city for a while, it gets to be boring or crazy or something. I'm from New York... well sort of. The place I live in and go to school at is near New York City. It's..." Bobby was about to say the name of the school, but he wondered if the girl would be scared if she found out he was a mutant. She was really pretty and really sweet, and if he was just going to spend the day with her, what was the point of telling her something that might cause her to run. "It's... a private school. We're...um... actually in L.A. on a school trip." He then looked around the mall and back at her with a smile. Karolina was gorgeous! "Hey, would you like to walk around the mall with me, maybe catch a movie at the theater in here?"

Karolina chuckled a little when Bobby blushed after she said his name was cute. He was really nice to talk with. "I always believe that everybody's names are special"said with a smile. He apologized for staring at her medical bracelet, but Karolina waved her head. "Don't worry about that Bobby. I'm used to the looks at first. It's okay...I had it since I was a kid, and it...holds a special value to me"said Karolina. She wasn't going to tell him that the metal of her bracelet was the only thing that didn't made her became Tinkerbell.
New York? That was really interesting. "How are things in New York? I'm sure they are a little crazy with all those heroes and villains running and fighting all the day"asked with curiosity. He said that he lived in a private school, but he didn't specify anything. "That's really interesting. I'm sure you are the kind of guy that makes a lot of friends in your school"said with a chuckle. He hided something, but she decided not to ask, she also had a secret. She wondered how Bobby would react if she told him she was an alien. He would probably at first laugh at her and maybe when he realized she was serious he would ran away freaked out. He would probably spend a day here in L.A., so why she would have to trouble him with something that would probably scare him?
Karolina got up and smiled back at Bobby. "That sounds as a good idea Bobby. I think that theater was near. Any movie you would like to see?"asked Karolina with a smile. She just hoped that Bobby wouldn't want to see a movie where aliens were the bad guys.

As Bobby walked with Karolina, he tried to figure out what all to say about New York. He really couldn't say much about the school, and he really couldn't go into his encounters with the heroes that lived in New York. As far as Karoline knew, he was a regular guy and someone who wouldn't hang around superheroes all the time.
"Yeah, New York is really something," he said. "I've seen Spiderman swing around now and then, and occasionally you see an Avenger or one of those... X-Men. But usually it's just life in the Big Apple and all that. We have a lot of work to do at the school I live at, so I don't get to go out into the city much these days. But it's nice to go to the Central Park Zoo now and then, or to grab a hotdog or something. New York has the best hotdogs. As far as friends, I get along with everyone for the most part, but I only have two really close friends, Jimmy and Rahne."
Bobby thought of a movie he did want to see, and hoped Karolina might want to see it as well. He knew some girls didn't care for big action movies, but also knew that some girls loved them. The same could be said about guys though.
"There's that Pacific Rim movie with the giant robots fighting the monsters," he said. "We could watch that unless you don't want to. We can watch whatever you want." His hand then moved nervously, wanting very much to hold hers.

Karolina listened to Bobby with interest as they walked."I dunno, I think that the X-men are heroes too, maybe even better than the Avengers"said Karolina with a nod. She still remembered when she met the Avengers and they decided to separate her from her friends and move her to a foster family. "Besides I think that we shouldn't judge other for how they got their powers or for their exterior"said Karolina with a sad smile. She knew that the others Runaways loved her despite she was an alien, she wondered how people would react after listening about it. She didn't understood why people feared mutants, it was a dumb fear.
"I always wanted to visit Central Park"said with a smile. "Well, if they sell tofu hotdogs I would say that New York would be cool"said with a chuckle pointing that she was vegetarian. "It's good that you have best friends. It's very important that you keep them"answered with a sad smile. She missed Nico, Molly, Gert, Old Lace and yes even Chase, and she would do anything to be back with them. She hoped that Bobby stay with his friends all the time he could.
When Bobby asked about seeing Pacific Rim Karolina frowned a little. She would prefer to see a movie were evil aliens don't appear. And that made her question something: why in nearly all the films the aliens have to be evil? It was dumb. The only exceptions that came to her mind were E.T. and...Avatar... The good things is that Bobby didn't mind to choose other film. "Uh...Bobby, I really hope you don't mind if we watch another film right? You can pick another that you want"said Karolina feeling a little guilty. Maybe Bobby wanted to see Pacific Rim so much, but Karolina wasn't in the mood of seeing aliens being killed, even if they were fake ones.

Bobby smiled at Karolina's feelings about the X-Men, and how one shouldn't judge people based on how they got their powers. Maybe he should tell her about who he was if that was the way she felt. He thought it over as they walked. Maybe after the movie.
"I'm glad you feel that way too," said Bobby. "Sadly, most people don't. They love the Avengers, but they see the X-Men as menaces. I don't get it either, the whole thing with some of them getting powers over time and others having them from birth being a big deal. I guess it's like when people are hateful to others because of their race or gender. That's what my professors at school tell me. They're... well they're for mutant rights as well."
He then chuckled about the food.
"Well, you can get tofu dogs in New York, but not at a lot of the stands," he said. "That's where I get my hotdogs most of the time."
He then felt bad that Karolina didn't seem to like the movie idea.
"No prob," he said. "Hey we can see a comedy. I think we could both use a good laugh. We can see that one with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and all those other comedians. How about that?" Bobby then gave out a long sigh and turned to her. It wasn't fair to her that he keep his secret from her, especially given how sweet she was.
"Look, Karolina, i haven't been completely honest with you," he said. "That school I go to? It's Xavier's Institute For The Gifted. And... I'm a mutant." He then formed ice shaped like a heart and presented it to her, hoping she'd like it.

Karolina smiled back at Bobby when he said he thought the same like her. "The Avengers aren't that great believe me. You are right I guess...I don't understand either why all the fear and hate, maybe people fear the things that are unknown"said Karolina. She smiled when he said that in that school the teachers taught him about the rights of mutants. She liked that school already.
She chuckled a little. "Well in L.A. we don't have a lot of tofu hotdogs either"
Bobby then proposed about seeing a comedy and she nodded. A film with Adam Sandler would be good, and she could have a few laughs. "Okay, you convinced me. I could buy the tickets and you could buy the popcorns, sounds as a plan?"asked Karolina with a smile. "Something wrong Bobby?"asked worried the blond alien as he saw him with a nervous expression.
He then told her that he was a mutant and that he studied in Xavier's Institute. Then he created a small heart of ice. Karolina at first was shocked, and then she felt guilt. Bobby told her his biggest secret, and she should do the same. As she held the ice heart in her hands, she looked at Bobby with a sad expression in her face and after bitting her lip, she took a deep breath. "Bobby...I-I haven't been honest with you either..."started to say Karolina as she grabbed his hand and walked with him till they were in a part of the mall, where there was no people.
Once Karolina was sure that they were only the two of them she looked at him. "When I discovered about my...secret recently...I wished to be a mutant, because then I wouldn't have too much questions about my past and my origins...I-I recently discovered that I'm not from this world..."she took a deep breath as she removed her medical bracelet and all her skin and hair glowed like a rainbow. "...I'm an alien..."

Bobby had little time to feel better that he had told the truth and had not scared Karolina off before she pulled him away from the public. She told him that she had something to tell him too. Was she a mutant? If so, this would be amazing. Maybe he could talk her into coming back to the school with him. He sneaked a smile as he followed, hoping for the best.
But that was not the case. She was not a mutant at all. Nor was she a meta-human. She was a being that Bobby had never seen before... a being from another world. When she removed her bracelet, the bracelet that made him believe she was ill, she shimmered so vibrantly, so beautifully. And that's what she was... beautiful... absolutely stunning. Before, Bobby thought he was just attracted to Karolina as a guy at his age would be attracted to most pretty girls Karolina's age... or at least the age she had appeared to be. Now he felt like he was falling in love with her. She took her hands and smiled.
"Karolina... you...you look amazing," he whispered. "And you shouldn't be ashamed, just as I shouldn't. It was foolish for both of us to hide who we were from another." Bobby then sighed and chuckled. "But if you'll pardon me, I am a little nervous to ask you what I'm about to ask you now." He knew a little bit closer. "Karolina... would it be alright if I kissed you?"

Karolina still wasn't accustomed to telling others that she was alien. As she said before, she wished to be a mutant, because then she wouldn't have too much questions about her, like, from which planet she came from? How where her parents before they arrived to Earth? How are the others Majesdanians?
She wasn't sure of how Bobby would react and she looked away from him a little sad. One thing was meeting a mutant, but an alien, something that people believe it doesn't exist was other thing. Then she felt Bobby's hands on her and she looked at him. He said she was beautiful and she shouldn't be ashamed of who she was. She nodded slowly. "I know that, is that well I recently discovered about my origins...and I believe that all my life had been a lie..."that was what most hurt Karolina. She always believe that she was just another teenager in L.A., but now, she felt like all that she believed crumbled.
"Yes...I guess you are right...but you should have in mind it would have been hard to guess that you are a mutant and me an alien"said with a chuckle.
Then he asked a question that caught her with the guard down: Bobby asked her if he could kiss her. Now she realized that Bobby had a crush on her. Karolina was now a little more nervous, as she didn't want to hurt the feelings of Bobby. "Bobby...I-I'm sorry...but it's not you, it's me. I know it sounds like the typical thing you say when you break with somebody...but it's the truth...I'm still adapting to all of this and new feelings that I'm starting to develop...umm...I'm not sure how you would react to this...but I-I think that I like girls"said Karolina a little nervous. It was the first time she confessed this, and she wasn't sure how her new friend could react. She just hoped she didn't broke his feelings, that was the least she wanted. She hoped he didn't freak out nor nothing like that.

Bobby didn't mind if Karolina was an alien at all. He knew what he felt for her was real, and had nothing to do with whether she was a normal human, a meta-human, a mutant, or an alien. That didn't bother him one bit. The whole rainbow glow then didn't bother him either. Again, he found her to be gorgeous. However, when she said that she was more into girls, it hurt him a good bit. Bobby had nothing against homosexuals of anything like that. He had both heterosexual and homosexual friends, and he treated them both with equal respect and never had an issue with their sexuality. It wasn't that at all.....
It was simply that he really liked Karolina, and now knew that there was no chance that she would like him as anything but a friend. it would be great having her as a friend, but that didn't make it hurt any less. He let go of her hands and blushed and sighed with embarrassment. Maybe it was for the best though. After all, he would have to leave her after today.
"I feel really stupid for asking now. Sorry," said Bobby. "Guess you better put your bracelet on and we'll go see that movie." It was then that a man and a woman who worked in the back of the mall walked around the corner and saw Karolina. The woman screamed and the man, not knowing what else to do, called security. Bobby quickly grabbed Karolina's hand.
"Come on!" he yelled, and began to run toward the emergency exit, gripping her hand.

Karolina felt really bad after she told. She knew that she hurt Bobby as she saw his face. She didn't realize that Bobby had an attraction towards her till it was to late. If she was able to see it before, she could have been able to deal without breaking his heart. "Bobby I'm the one that I'm really sorry. And I feel stupid too...you are a really nice guy...and I feel like I messed things"said Karolina. She felt really guilt.
Karolina nodded and grabbed her bracelet again. But before she put it, she heard a woman screaming and she looked at the couple that caught them. "Oh boy..."said Karolina as she looked away. She felt how Bobby grabbed her hand and they started to ran away as the man called security. While they were running Karolina was able to put her bracelet back and she was back in human form. "Bobby, I'm sorry..."apologized Karolina. She was sorry for being caught, for breaking his heart, for everything. Soon they arrived to the emergency exit.
